The partnership has been announced as James is in North America for the World Cup, and he has encouraged people to use the tournament as an opportunity to discuss financial worries with their loved ones.
James said: “It’s been a long time since Scotland were in the World Cup, so there’s bound to be loads of excitement. But as well as the positive side of the tournament, like bringing families together, it can also be a distraction.”
James will be working with UK Debt Expert, which supports people with free debt advice and tailored debt solutions, over the World Cup to encourage Scots to open up about their money worries.
He added: “Life can get in the way, but the World Cup is a time when a lot of people will be getting together with friends and family, so if someone is carrying a burden, it could encourage someone to open up. Or if you’ve noticed a change in someone, it could be an ideal opportunity for you to just ask that question.
“Some people will say they’re fine, but you know they’re not because you can spot wee differences in their mannerisms, their mood, and how they’re speaking to you.”
“I totally understand the nerves, but just take that first step, whatever it is. Open up to someone close to you, like a close friend or family member, or seek professional advice. It’s a small step, but it’s a problem halved, and it can give you a different perspective on the situation.”
